Entergy New Orleans, a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation, is an electric and
gas utility serving Orleans Parish. Customers on the east bank of the parish
are served by Entergy New Orleans, while customers on the west bank, or
Algiers portion of the parish, are served by Entergy Louisiana.
Entergy New Orleans owns two generating stations: the 870 MW Michoud Plant and
the 61 MW Patterson Plant, both located in eastern New Orleans.
Formed in the early 1900s as New Orleans Public Service Inc., or NOPSI, the
company originally provided gas and electric service and maintained the
streetcar and bus lines with one simple goal: to provide courteous, continuous
and efficient service at all times. Although the company eventually
relinquished operation of the streetcar and bus lines, Entergy New Orleans
maintains a similar goal with a new slogan: keep the lights on and the gas
flowing.
As of December 2009, Entergy New Orleans provides electricity to approximately
150,000 electric customers and natural gas to approximately 96,000 customers
in Orleans Parish. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, electricity was provided to
more than 190,000 customers and natural gas to more than 147,000 customers.
In recent years, Entergy New Orleans has launched several initiatives to
improve customer service and reliability, including increased staffing,
additional funds for maintenance and tree trimming, and the opening of walk-in
Customer Care Centers where customers can work face-to-face with Entergy
representatives to coordinate their electric and gas service needs.
Along with creating a culture that attracts, retains and brings out the best
in people, Entergy New Orleans continues to look for better ways to provide
employees with the tools needed to meet and exceed customers’ expectations. In
executing its business operations, Entergy believes that there must be a
balance between financial success and customer satisfaction.
