Frequently Asked Questions - Hurricane Katrina
Q. What should I do if a gas leak is suspected?
A. Leave the area
immediately but stay in close proximity so that you are available once a
service representative arrives. Please call 1-800-368-3749 to report the leak
to a customer service representative.
Q. Why has my gas been turned off?
A. As residents and business
owners returned to New Orleans to check on their properties, they may have
found that their gas service was turned off for safety reasons. If you return
home to find that the gas has been turned off, Entergy asks that you do not
attempt to turn it on yourself. This could cause a safety hazard for you and
your property. Please call 1-800-368-3749 to report the gas outage to a
customer service representative.
Q. What do I do if my gas pipes are damaged?
A. Entergy cannot
restore natural gas service to homes and businesses where the customer’s
piping system has been damaged. Customers whose homes were flooded or suffered
structural damage should contact a licensed plumber to inspect gas piping and
make repairs. Customers should have repairs to their gas piping made by a
licensed plumber, approved by a city inspector, then call Entergy at
1-800-368-3749 when the repairs are completed.
Q. When will my gas service be restored?
A. Gas service has been
restored to most areas of the city. To have gas service restored to your
individual home or business, you must have a licensed plumber make any
necessary repairs and apply for a city inspection if required to confirm that
gas service is safe to turn on. Once this is complete, please call
1-800-368-3749 to request the gas service be turned on and Entergy will
arrange to have gas service restored. Entergy asks that you do not attempt to
turn the gas on yourself, because it is possible that you could have damage to
your meter or the pipes that serve your home or business.
