Entergy Foundation Targets Education, Environmental Programs and Poverty Solutions

Entergy awards nearly $1.1 million in grants to local Louisiana nonprofit organizations

NEW ORLEANS – More than 20 local nonprofit organizations will help improve the quality of life around the Bayou State thanks to recent grant awards from the Entergy Charitable Foundation. The foundation is funded by shareholders of Entergy Corporation and supports strategic investments in education, environmental programs and poverty solutions in communities served by Entergy.

Of the $1.76 million awarded across the Entergy system, Louisiana nonprofit organizations received nearly $1.1 million in funding in the first of two award cycles offered annually by the foundation. Applications for the next cycle of the grant program should be submitted by Aug 1.

First-cycle recipients include organizations that invest in local education, environmental programs and poverty solutions. Examples include KIPP New Orleans, Teach for America, City Year, New Schools for Baton Rouge, Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Louisiana, the Salvation Army Building Fund and more.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to give back to the communities in which we live and work and are proud to support organizations that improve our education, environment and quality of life,” said Melonie Stewart, director of regional customer service in the New Orleans area. “By building stronger communities, we also enrich the lives of the customers we serve.”

The Entergy Charitable Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization, provides one of several grant programs Entergy offers to communities served. In 2013 Entergy, the Entergy Charitable Foundation and its subsidiaries awarded grants totaling more than $15 million in charitable donations to nonprofits in communities served by Entergy. Entergy employees also logged more than 100,000 hours of volunteer service.
