Electric and Gas Service in New Orleans
Katrina Information
Electric and gas service is now available to the vast majority of New
Orleans
Repairs to Entergy New Orleans’ electric and gas
infrastructure have made power and gas service available to the majority of
residents and businesses in New Orleans, except in a few isolated cases and in
areas that sustained severe devastation from Hurricane Katrina. Residents and
businesses not receiving power or gas at this time should call 1-800-ENTERGY
to have their service reconnected if their property can safely take service.
Properties with damage from Hurricane Katrina
Customers with
property that flooded, or with other damage to their electrical or gas
facilities, must have their homes inspected by a licensed electrician or
licensed plumber and go through the proper permitting channels before Entergy
can safely restore service.
Electrical
Inspections & Permitting Update
Customers may 1) choose to
have a City of New Orleans-issued permit certifying electrical repairs to the
property, or 2) choose the City’s new FastTrack Permitting, which waives
electrical inspection and permitting.
-
City Permitting: Call a licensed electrician to repair damage to wires and
electrical equipment. The City of New Orleans Department of Safety & Permits
will inspect the work and issue a permit. Power will be restored in 5-7 days
after the City notifies Entergy of permitting. Please call 1-800-ENTERGY to
request service.
-
FastTrack Permitting: A new City ordinance allows electrical inspections to be
waived by consent of the homeowner and their licensed electrician. The
homeowner and electrician will need to print and sign the official
certification form (click
here for the form) and submit the original with a copy of the Class 'A'
Electrical license to the City when all work is complete and the location is
ready for power. This will serve as the inspection, and the property will be
signed off on by the city for Entergy to restore power. Power will be restored
in 5-7 days after the City notifies Entergy of permitting. For more
information, visit www.cityofno.com.
Gas Permits
Call a licensed plumber to repair damaged pipes. The
City of New Orleans Department of Safety & Permits will inspect the work and
issue a permit. Entergy will restore gas in 3-5 days after receiving notice of
the City permit. Please call 1-800-ENTERGY to request service.
Lake Catherine UPDATE
Gas is not available due to extensive damage to the system. Entergy New
Orleans is actively pursuing options for customers in that area. Projected
date of availability to be determined.
